BETA-FOR-est
After an inspiring visit of the Forum Botanische Kunst and the forestry research areas at Ludwig Maximilian University in Würzburg, Japanese artist Asuka Hishiki created an artist wallpaper. In 79 depictions of plants and insects from the Franconian forests, she conveys the idea behind the “BETA-FOR” research project: by deliberately creating clearings with deadwood in managed forests, biodiversity can be increased quickly and effectively.

Catalog "BETA-FOR-est"
In addition to a statement by the artist, the catalog contains an easy-to-understand text by Michael Junginger explaining the “BETA-FOR” research project. A picture section explains how the plants and insects are arranged on the wallpaper—just as they live in lighter or shadier parts of the forest. All 69 species depicted, some in several stages such as larva and butterfly, are listed in a species list with short texts about their special characteristics in terms of habitat and feeding behavior. The catalog is bound by hand in a piece of the original wallpaper, so each copy has a different wallpaper section on the cover.
The catalog is only available in English.
